Echota Vacation Rentals

An Echota vacation rental puts you in one of the High Country's best-positioned gated communities — spread along the Watauga River and up onto the ridgeline off NC-105, roughly fifteen minutes from Boone, Blowing Rock, Banner Elk and Valle Crucis in every direction. It's the rare mountain address where you're not choosing between towns. You're in the middle of all of them.

Two clubhouses, guest access included

Echota's amenity package is one of the deepest in the Boone area, and it's built to work in January as well as July. Guests staying in an Echota rental have access to both clubhouses and the amenities inside them:

  • The Echota Clubhouse — 3,300 square feet with a double-sided stone fireplace, vaulted ceilings, catering kitchen, reading nook and pool table, plus the indoor pool, hot tub and a fitness center
  • The Ridge Clubhouse — the ridgetop counterpart, with an outdoor pool and waterfall, a second fitness room and a game room
  • Indoor pool with a sliding solarium roof — open year-round, so a February soak still comes with mountain views
  • Ridgetop outdoor pool — open seasonally through the summer months
  • Two stocked fishing ponds — trout, bass and bluegill — plus trout fishing on the Watauga
  • Bryan Booe Memorial Riverpark — riverside community park on the Watauga
  • Miles of walking and hiking trails, bocce and outdoor sports areas, plus a paved loop road that's ideal for an easy morning walk

One note in the interest of not overselling: Echota has a third pool that is reserved for Echota homeowners and is not available to rental guests. Seasonal hours are set by the community — if a specific amenity is the reason for your trip, ask us before you book and we'll confirm what's open.

The ridge or the river

Echota isn't one neighborhood — it's several, and they feel different. Echota on the Ridge sits high on the ridgeline with Grandfather Mountain and Blowing Rock on one side and the Watauga River Valley and Valle Crucis on the other; that's where the long-range views and the outdoor pool are. The original riverfront Echota section sits down along the water near the riverpark and the ponds, quieter and shaded. Chalakee, The Summit and Legacy Ridge fill in between. Ask us which section a home is in — it changes the trip.

Fifteen minutes from everything

Approximate drive times from Echota:

  • Downtown Boone and Appalachian State — about 15 minutes
  • Valle Crucis and the original Mast General Store — about 10 minutes
  • Blowing Rock — about 20 minutes
  • Banner Elk — about 20 minutes
  • Grandfather Vineyard & Winery — about 10 minutes
  • Grandfather Mountain and the Blue Ridge Parkway — about 20 minutes
  • Sugar Mountain, Beech Mountain and Appalachian Ski Mtn — 20 to 35 minutes

When to come

October is the headline month — the NC-105 corridor and the Watauga valley put on one of the best fall shows in the East. Winter works here in a way it doesn't everywhere, because the indoor pool and both clubhouses stay open and the ski areas ring the community. Summer runs cool and green with the river and the ponds right there. May, June and September are the value windows: same views, softer rates, fewer people.
