Welcome to The Grateful Bear, a luxury mountain retreat located in the prestigious Lodges at Eagles Nest. This upscale home features a bright open living area with a stone fireplace, gourmet kitchen, game-filled loft, and a covered deck with outdoor fireplace and hot tub. Sleeps up to 8 with king suites and a bunk room. Enjoy stunning mountain views and easy access to Banner Elk, Beech Mountain, and Boone. ATVs and dirtbikes are not allowed on-site.
The Grateful Bear is a luxury mountain home located within the prestigious Lodges at Eagles Nest in the mountains of North Carolina. Designed to blend comfort, elegance, and natural beauty, the home offers spacious living areas and thoughtful amenities for both relaxing and adventure-filled stays. The open-concept main living space features a wall of windows that fills the home with natural light and showcases seasonal mountain views. Guests can relax on plush leather seating by the stacked stone gas fireplace or enjoy entertainment on the wall-mounted TV. The gourmet kitchen is fully equipped with high-end appliances, cookware, and ample counter space, with an adjoining dining area ideal for shared meals.
Outdoor living includes an expansive covered deck with a gas log fireplace, comfortable seating, and scenic views, along with a landscaped hot tub area conveniently accessed from the mudroom. The loft provides entertainment for all ages with a pool table, ping-pong conversion, classic arcade game, and a dedicated sensory nook for children. The home accommodates up to eight guests with three bedrooms, including a king master suite with ensuite bath, an upstairs king suite with ensuite, and a bunk room with a twin-over-twin bunk and separate queen bed. All bedrooms include TVs with live cable and streaming.

Epic Chophouse restaurant in Banner Elk offers the top dining experience and best mountain views in the High Country of North Carolina. We literally elevated food and drink in the Blue Ridge when we opened our Eagles Nest location at 4,300 feet elevation in 2025. Perched atop a knoll with panoramic vistas, our gorgeous mountain lodge setting has soaring ceilings, glass walls and striking art. Watch summer sunsets from covered decks complete with firepits. Open year-round, the bar and dining room with a massive stone fireplace are perfect places to gather with friends on winter days.

We had a great stay! Nick was an awesome host, and the house and surrounding area were absolutely amazing. We especially enjoyed the outdoor living area and hot tub. Such a great place to relax and spend time with the family. We also really enjoyed getting out and strolling around Banner Elk. Beautiful area, great house, and an overall great experience. We’d definitely stay again!
A really great home and space! The outside sitting area and fire place with TV was so enjoyable. And the game room is a ton of fun! GPS doesn’t work right after you enter the main gate. Don’t forget to read the instructions and familiar yourself with the streets and directions up the mountain! The back gate out into beech mountain is great for using as well. Again. GPS isn’t going to get you to it. ;). But a smart person can figure it out. We are already looking at another trip to the house! The Epic Chop House is an amazing restaurant inside the neighborhood and yes the best dollar general store you have ever seen!

Great home, great host, great weekend! We spent a long sister’s weekend in The Grateful Bear and couldn’t have asked for a better place. Everything was exactly as pictured, and we spent the majority of our time on the amazing back deck. I have rented so many places that have sleeping for plenty of people, but don’t have seating to accommodate everyone in the living areas. Definitely not the case here! The living area, the kitchen and the outdoor space had comfortable seating for everyone, and then some. Nick was responsive from the time I booked the house until we left. He even reached out to let us know that his cleaners finished up earlier than expected and offered us the opportunity to check in early. Great experience from start to finish!
